Light It Up - LED lighting creates new options for planners
LED lights are energy-efficient, have a long service life (up to 100,000 hours for some kinds of LED lights) and they come in virtually any colors you want; one manufacturer makes variable-intensity LEDs that can create more than 16.7 million colors. LED is becoming the standard for display lighting. Here’s a look at some of the latest LED lights for events.
Special Effects in Tight Spaces? No Problem
Space considerations often limit special effects with conventional lighting. Gerriets International has introduced a product that allows users to create exciting special effects in less space when used together: a front and rear projection screen called Transmission with an increased gain of 1.13, and the company’s new ShowLED Animation High Output LED backdrop.
With this duo, you only need 12 inches behind the diffuser screen to create that spark of special effects magic.

Light that Tent
LED fixtures are useful in a variety of lighting contexts, but they are particularly useful in safely lighting tent liners, where heat from conventional fixtures hung in close proximity to delicate liner fabric potentially could lead to problems. The high heat output of traditional lights also requires that additional climate-control equipment be brought in to maintain comfortable temperatures. LED fixtures and the latest generation of lighting controllers greatly reduce these concerns—and your costs. Full Circle Lighting takes advantage of new LED technology for tented events, using a range of LED products from Color Kinetics.

Spotlight, Meet Superspot
The standard focus beam for LED spotlights used to be 30 degrees, making it impractical for some applications. Now the Litepanel 1x1 Superspot has cut that in half, with a 15-degree 5600K output beam, giving producers even more control and a longer throw of light. Professionals like the many benefits of LED spotlighting, including cool temperature and much lower power use than traditional lighting fixtures. The Superspot has easy setup; lightweight, accessible control knobs; color/diffusion gel filters; optional battery packs; and more.

World’s Largest HD Video Display
Mitsubishi Electric has secured its place in the record books, with Guinness World Records acknowledging its Diamond Vision video board installation in the Dallas Cowboys Stadium as the world’s largest high-definition video display. The world’s first four-sided, center-hung stadium video display consists of four Diamond Vision LED video screens, with the two main high-definition sideline displays measuring 72 feet high by 161 feet wide, and two Diamond Vision end-zone displays measuring 30 feet high by 51 feet wide. Weighing 544 tons, the screens are suspended 90 feet directly over the center of the playing surface and stretch nearly from one 20-yard line to the other.

Target Gets Interactive with Smart LEDs
High atop New York’s Rockefeller Center is a unique, interactive space that takes the capabilities of intelligent LED lighting to new creative heights. Conceptualized by Electroland of Los Angeles, the Target Interactive Breezeway is an imaginatively lit passage that connects the center’s top-floor observation decks. It’s designed to engage visitors as they pass through by tracing their movement with intelligently controlled light, an example of how LED lighting fixtures combined with computer-controlled systems make for exciting special effects.

LED Glasses Get Classy
The tinkle of glasses meeting for a toast is a signature sound at high-end events. Now you can integrate LED-lit glasses into your event without sacrificing real glass for other materials. Fortune Products has introduced martini and wine glasses with LED-lighted bases. These dishwasher-safe glasses have a frosted base and stem with multi-colored LEDs housed in the light base. The battery removes easily without tools for cleaning. The lights can be set for slow changes of five colors, or can be locked on any color or combination of colors. The wine glass holds 12 ounces and the martini glass holds 8 ounces.
