Let it Snow

Perhaps more than any other month, December has something for everyone to like. That’s the month I tend to think mostly about business, the holidays and the weather.

For business, December’s the best time to reflect on all that’s gone on during the year, and offers the first glimpse of what the next year holds in store.

Here at Event Solutions we had a strong 2006, and a large portion of this issue is devoted to reviewing the successful Idea Factory that was held in Denver.

We’ve made great strides toward an even more successful 2007.

In the next few weeks, look for a fully redesigned website with a whole new slate of content for our readers and marketing opportunities for our advertisers. In mid-March, we’ll introduce the “2007 Event Solutions Annual Forecast.” It’s much of the same content you’re familiar with from the Black Book survey, but we’re looking at the data with an eye toward the future. Also, its new design and format is more reader-friendly and makes it a more valuable marketing tool. And of course we’re already planning the 2007 Event Solutions Idea Factory, to be held at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami from Monday Aug. 20 – Thursday, Aug. 23.

As for the holidays, they arrive in December with their attendant celebrations, and time with family and friends. Without these things, even the best business successes are hollow and meaningless.

Our entire staff wishes you the best this holiday season, and hopes that time spent with friends and family is plentiful.

For my part, I’d like to offer an Irish toast: May peace and plenty be the first to lift the latch on your door, and happiness be guided to your home by the candle of Christmas.

And then there’s the weather. December heralds the first days of winter — for most of you.

If you’ve read this column much, you know I moved to the Phoenix area from Seattle about a year ago.

But I’m not here to rub in the fact that I can — and probably will — play a round of golf on New Year’s Day. I take the responsibility of writing a publisher’s notebook each month quite seriously, and would not use this space to gloat.

I won’t mention flipping steaks on the grill on a sunny December Saturday in the backyard.

Mind you, it’s not all rosy in the desert. I discovered recently that hanging Christmas lights on a cactus can be just as dangerous as teetering precariously on a wet roof in a snowstorm.
