From fashion designers, to chefs, to would-be Trump employees, you can hardly turn on the TV these days without running into a reality-style competition. At the Event Solutions Idea Factory and catersource Conference & Tradeshow, the events industry finally has its own.
In its third year, the Event Solutions Design Challenge will be transformed with a new partner – Eureka! Party Tents. The winning team gets the top prize — $5,000! Four teams will be selected to compete this year and each will be assigned a Eureka Tent to produce and design their event for this year’s contest. Each team will be given the same 20 x 20 blank canvas tent to begin production. Event Solutions and Eureka! will create challenges and the direction for each space.
Get your Team Ready
The teams will consist of four members and feature a collection of specialists representing each of these event areas:
- Planner
- Designer
- Rental Specialist
- Technical Producer
The challenge combines relationship building, creative direction, design and logistical elements in challenging the competitors to showcase their talents in these critical areas of event design. As the event execution challenge unfolds, attendees will see the creative process at work.
“The experience generated relationships and required that we showcase our ability for multitasking,” said Miami 2007 challenge contestant Veronica Walsh, owner, Planning the Globe. “We created some astounding memories for our team, as we learned from one another and about one another — and isn’t that really what the event industry is all about?”
How it Works
Teams will be given two weeks notice, with the rules and direction of their challenge. All work on their areas must take place during the two days of the trade show floor. Each morning, they will be given a product that they must incorporate into their design
The best design will be determined by a popular vote by attendees on the tradeshow. Winners and check presentation will take place during the Closing Session on Wednesday.
Your conference registration includes at least one entry in the Big Ticket Raffle held Wendesday on the trade show floor. Tickets will be drawn for all prizes at 12:30 p.m. so plan to be there for your chance to win some awesome prizes, valued at more than $75,000!

In celebration and promotion of the hottest and most effective trends in marketing, catersource and Event Solutions announces our 2008 e-newsletter contest. This is an easy contest to enter. Simply send us one edition of your company’s e-newsletter and a completed entry form to arrive between now and January 1, 2008.

Annual catersource Buffet Contest
Show off your best buffet at the 2008 catersource Buffet Contest! Not only will it give you the chance to win cash, prizes and recognition, but you’ll also receive a $400 rebate to help with shipping costs and one full conference package rebate after the show. Best of show winners will be selected by popular vote.
Prizes
First Place - $3,500 cash, a $1,500 gift certificate, two 2009 conference tuition certificates and a trophy.
Second Place - $1,500 cash, a $1,500 gift certificate and two 2009 conference tuition certificates.
Third Place - $500 cash, a $500 gift certificate and two 2009 conference tuition certificates.
DESIGN AWARD winners will be selected by the catersource Advisory Board and judged in three categories:
- Most Innovative (the unique use of materials)
- Most Viable Concept (functional, practical design)
- Most Creative (best implementation of a theme)
Winners in each category will receive $500 cash, a $500 gift certificate two catersource 2009 tuition certificates and a trophy.
