Fashion Week : A Peek at 2012
Event design takes much of its inspiration from the world of fashion, so savvy event designers tend to keep a close watch on what’s coming down the runways during Fashion Week, recently held in New York City and other cities around the world.
Reviews of this year’s shows point to a return to more conservative, feminine, romantic styles, with over-the edge Lady Ga-Ga-like costumes fading into the background.
Some observers attribute this more ladylike style to the much-anticipated remake of The Great Gatsby, now being filmed in Australia. Shimmering fabrics in soft silvers and blues, ruffles, bows and polka dots reflect a 1920s elegance that’s sure to appeal to event designers who want to be on the leading edge.
Other fashion trends include a bevy of floral prints (large and small), bold geometrical patterns and vibrant, in-your-face colors such as tomato red, cobalt blue, orange, yellow and green accented with muted, neutral tones.
