In late September, teams of executives and planners from leading incentive companies descended on Vail, Colorado to experience the delights of this destination wonderland. But rather than guidebooks, they had iPads in hand.

It was all part of a brainstorm by Wildly Different, a creative team building company in Orlando, Florida, that was asked by the Vail Cascade Resort and Spa to come up with a unique way to engage and educate their guests about the area’s attractions. Wildly Different teamed up with MobileXpeditions to design and produce the event.

The iPads were pre-loaded with clues, information and animations, taking full advantage of everything the iPad has to offer including music files, video, photos and more. The teams were given all ten locations that they had to visit, either by foot, bus or hotel shuttle. When they reached the location, the iPad revealed a clue that they had to solve before they could move on to the next location. Some of the locations spiced up the hunt by supplying drinks, local celebrities for photo shoots and even participating in the hunt. For instance, at a local pub, the team members had to get up on stage and sing with the manager and entertainer before they could move on.

When all the teams gathered at the final location, they were given a code to unlock the final clue, which revealed a word search game on the screen. The challenge then became to find all the words they had identified on their hunt, as well as the names of the venues they had visited. Once they had located all the words, a phrase appeared from the unused letters—the directive to “Yodel Loudly.” The first team to do the yodeling was anointed the winner, winning two-night stays at local resorts.
